What does a new American economy look like?
Well, it doesn't look like the top 5% of Americans owning 50% of the wealth which is the case today! Where has the middle class gone? In my dreams, the new economy is at least as prosperous as when I was a kid in the 60's. A single wage earner could support a family then. Now it takes 2+ incomes per household, and there are reports that up to 4 incomes are necessary. I'm no economist, so I can't site statistics, trends, policies and so one....but I can remember the slow pace of life, less stressful when that one income could support while I compare it to the stress-fast-paced life I now see around me as 2 people struggle to meet household expenses, rear families, and provide for retirement.
So my new American economy has a more even distribution of wealth - however that comes about. And it does not outsource jobs - NAFTA is gone, GATT is gone. This economy is also not a war economy but one that invests in peace dividends in education, healthcare, infrastructure, etc.
